Resin choice is an engineering decision driven by exposure chemistry, subgrade behaviour and required design life rather than by unit cost. Polyolefins hold the bulk of demand because their certification pathways are mature and their long-term performance data sets are extensive. Specialty formulations — conductive, reflective, antimicrobial — are where suppliers are building differentiation and defending margin.

Application mix is shifting toward higher-specification end uses. Waste retains the largest revenue slice, but its growth is capacity-constrained by diversion policy, whereas mining and water applications benefit from regulatory tightening and infrastructure funding respectively. Suppliers concentrated in commodity municipal work face more price pressure than those positioned in tailings and brine management.
