Google Dominates Tech Search in the United States, may Raise Legal Concerns

By Aarti Dhapte , 23 December, 2024

Google search will lead the tech search in the United States in 2024 on desktop and mobile versions. As the legal complaint says, Alphabet's Google tries to dominate all sectors of online ad techs. Google is trying to control and overtake its competitors by dominating the online advertisement sector. Further, this raises legal issues for Google in 2024.

The United States federal court found Google to be the anti-competition law in August 2024. However, this case has been elongated after an initial complaint was filed against Google in 2020. According to the sources, Google accounted for 95 and 76 percent of market shares in mobile and desktop, respectively. This data is recorded in the time frame from September 2023 to August 2024 in the United States. Hence, it has resulted in a legal issue in 2024 stating the dominance of one company in the tech search segments.

Google's empowerment over the tech search sector also dominates other company's search tools. Further, Google's control over desktop and mobile searches in the services market is the leading cause of legal concerns. Google states that strategic actions are the main reason behind its search dominance in 2024. Moreover, it has led to effective competition with other search counterparts in the tech market.

Policymakers and other researchers view that Google's dominance over the search market can cause antitrust trials in court. Further, it can significantly change how Google operates in the future. This case on Alphabet's Google sets an example for other tech companies to follow strict regulatory rules.

Surveys on Google's search efficiency show it covers a three-quarter share of the total search volume from PCs and laptops. Integration of generative AI models in the search bars and systems can be a possible reason. Since Mobile is the handiest solution, easy to carry, and often used daily, it generates 95 percent of the market share on the Google search engine in the US.
