The former involves feeding the liquid metal into an injection moulding barrel that has been specially built. The barrel is then sheared by a screw mechanism, cooled into a semi-solid slurry, and finally die cast. In order to die-cast semi-solid metal particles under heating and shearing conditions, the latter involves feeding solid metal particles or chips into a screw injection moulding machine.
