India’s Millet Based Snack Exports Cross New Milestone in June
An important change in the Food & Beverage Market in 2025 is the record-high millet-based snack exports India saw in June 2025. Driven by ongoing worldwide demand for healthy, gluten-free, and climate-resilient foods, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) reports that millet snack shipments exceeded USD 148 million in June 2025, a 26 percent year-on-year growth.
This increase indicates the increased worldwide demand for millet snacks, seen as better substitutes in the market of health foods. This expansion was facilitated by the Millet Mission of the Indian government in conjunction with the International Year of Millets 2023, recognized by UN design. With snacks accounting for more than 45 percent of millet-based export value, India's emphasis now moves from raw millet exports to value-added millet goods by 2025.
Under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), legislative changes in 2025 have simplified paperwork and encouraged millet processing innovation, therefore easing compliance for food exporters based on millet-based operations. Startups and big companies like Slurrp Farm, Tata Soull, and Millet Amma have therefore extended their export activities in 2025, thus leveraging markets all throughout the Middle East, Europe, and North America.
Sustainability is yet another major force in the Food & Beverage Market 2025. Since millets need far less water than rice or wheat, snacks based on millets are environmentally friendly. Exporters in 2025 are using this value offer in marketing to customers who care about the environment.
Particularly in states like Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Telangana, where government subsidies and PPP models are enabling businesses to grow output and raise global packaging standards, investments in processing infrastructure have also surged in 2025.
With India positioned as a worldwide millet innovation centre, the millet snack export trend in 2025 is predicted to significantly increase revenue generation, diversify agricultural income, and confirm India's leadership in functional food exports.
