China Dominates World’s Clean Energy Transition with Two-Thirds of Solar and Wind Energy Production

By Shubhendra Anand , 06 January, 2025

The renewable energy dominance is growing with the clean energy transition in 2024. China is rapidly multiplying its green energy globally compared to other nations. Further, it enhances the scope of achieving sustainable goals within a limited period. Moreover, the country can harness clean fuel and energy to other nations and expand its energy exports. A survey in 2024 suggests that China is building two-thirds of the world's solar and wind projects. This indicates the rapid energy expansion of the Chinese energy sector in 2024.

Experts say China is the leading country in the world's renewable energy development. The survey on China's expanding energy sector reveals interesting results in 2024. It shows that China's pipeline projects for renewable energy expansion are twice the size of the world's combined pipeline projects. China's energy sector survey shows that the nation is expected to cover about 1200 gigawatts of solar and wind energy installation by the end of 2024. Previously, China generated solar panels rapidly to integrate solar energy into the energy system. Hence, the clean energy transition will quickly grow with wind and solar energy capacity in 2024. Moreover, China enhances the production of other renewables in the energy sector.

Experts reveal that China's targets are to exceed the government's goals of achieving renewable production in 2024. Therefore, the country is enhancing its production with no other country nearer to its competition. The nation's government registered solar and wind power equals 180 gigawatts and 159 gigawatts, respectively, in 2024. China's wind and solar power will overcome the United States' production rates in 2024. Studies show that the United States appears to cover only 40 gigawatts in the developing phase. Many reasons behind China's increasing renewables production cover two-thirds of the world's solar and wind energy generation—rapid industrialization, clean energy transition, small renewable farm contributions, etc. Small renewable energy farms contribute about 40 percent of solar power in China. This indicates even small contributions in the energy sector bring positive changes.

China will generate 44 percent of its electricity from solar and wind power in 2024:
