Hydropower Dominates The Clean Electricity Production In Top Five Countries With Cleanest Grids In 2024
By Shubhendra Anand , 10 June, 2024
The clean energy transition is progressing with a greater speed in 2024. It is creating broader impacts in the different sectors of the economy. Hence, nations worldwide are supporting green transformation in several ways. However, funds for the clean energy transition are an essential aspect that is pivotal in giving this phenomenon final shape. Globally, countries are setting high standards for clean energy development.
The nations in the race for green transformation have one goal towards a decarbonized, greener environment by the end of 2050. The demand for fossil fuels is lowering gradually due to the transformation in 2024. The green energy transition contains several norms drafted by different economies in their respective nations. These rules and regulations are pressingly impacting countries' ability to compete with one another to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The survey reveals the top five countries in the world to have the cleanest energy grid worldwide in 2024. For electricity production, nations are opting for renewable sources in 2024. The countries with the highest number of natural resources, such as wind, hydro, and other renewable energy sources, stand as the highest electricity production in greener ways. Therefore, governments in these respective countries are increasing the rate of funds into the state due to the highest amount of electricity produced from greener resources.
Based on the survey, several countries contributing to the cleanest electricity grids in 2023. The first five countries on the list are Paraguay, Bhutan, Lesotho, Nepal, and Ethiopia. Paraguay will have the cleanest power grid worldwide in 2024, with a 100 percent cleanest electricity supply by the end of 2021. Most of its supply goes to South America's electricity supply. Bhutan and Lesotho follow it with 99.8 and 99.3 percent of clean electricity supply. Bhutan generates electricity with hydropower, while Lesotho depends on solar and wind energy. In Nepal, 97 percent of electricity is generated from hydropower in the cleanest way possible. Lastly, Ethiopia produces clean electricity from solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and other renewable energy sources. Therefore, it can be derived from the study of surveys that hydropower will dominate the energy market for clean electricity production in 2024. Hence, more investment in hydropower generation will help to get good returns in the clean energy transition.
