    Recycled Carbon Fiber Key Companies

    January 2023

Teijin Limited and Fujitsu Limited have embarked on a collaborative project to improve the environmental value of recycled resources in the production of bicycle frames. The project is being carried out in collaboration with V Frames GmbH (hereinafter V Frames), a German distributor and manufacturer of carbon fiber reinforced plastic bicycle frames, and E-Bike Advanced Technologies GmbH (hereinafter Advanced Bikes), a German bicycle manufacturer.

As part of the trials to support the environmentally conscious bicycle industry's sustainable use of recycled materials and the tracking and management of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Teijin and Fujitsu will employ a blockchain-based commercial platform that was introduced in July 2022.

Teijin and Fujitsu hope to support the realization of a circular economy and the growth of the carbon fiber recycling market by putting into practice a business model that maximizes the environmental value of recycled materials.

Asahi Kasei, a multifaceted Japanese multinational corporation, has collaborated with the National Institute of Technology, Kitakyushu College, and Tokyo University of Science to develop a novel technology for recycling carbon fiber plastic compounds.

Asahi Kasei, in collaboration with its project partners at the Tokyo University of Science and the National Institute of Technology at Kitakyushu College, has created a recycling process that makes it possible to separate carbon fibers from CFRP, or carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics, which are used in cars. This produces continuous carbon fiber of excellent quality at a low cost that is recyclable indefinitely, supporting the circular economy.

Asahi Kasei's method makes it possible to extract carbon fiber from a plastic compound without chopping it up during the recycling process.

SGL Carbon (Germany), Sigmatex (UK), Teijin Limited (Japan), ZOLTEK Corporation (US), and ELG Carbon Fibre Ltd (UK) are the prominent players operating in the global recycled carbon fiber market.
