    • Oct 2023: Acasti Pharma Inc. has sold krill-related patents, pre-clinical and clinical research, and processing equipment to Aker BioMarine ASA, consolidating intellectual property (IP) in the krill domain. Originally founded to develop a krill oil medication called CaPre, Acasti Pharma was a division of Neptune Technologies & Bioresources Inc., a Canadian krill oil industry pioneer. A second Phase III experiment (TRILOGY 1) revealed a large placebo effect, although CaPre's Phase II trial findings for lowering triglyceride levels were beneficial. Nevertheless, combining data from TRILOGY 1 and TRILOGY 2 showed a substantial therapeutic impact of more than 10%, with a 26% drop in blood triglyceride levels, as opposed to 15.1% in the placebo group (12-week intervention). These outcomes continued through week 26 of the study.

    • April 2023: The United States Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service conducted a pre-market regulatory status evaluation and found that a teff that has undergone genome editing to achieve a semi-dwarf height is exempt from biotechnology regulation under the USDA's SECURE Rule. To increase teff production through innovative plant breeding methods, scientists from the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center's Institute for International Crop Improvement (IICI) collaborated with the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research to create the novel semi-dwarf teff.
