Research Design
This research employs a descriptive research design. A descriptive research design is appropriate for this study as it aims to uncover information about the current trends and drivers of the consumption of barbecue sauce among consumers in the United States. This type of research design permits the collection of detailed information about the variable of interest and allows for a thorough examination of this variable (Saunders et al., 2020).
Data Sources
Secondary data is used to explore the current trends, drivers, and factors that influence the consumption of barbecue sauce in the United States. The secondary data is sourced from scholarly articles, market research reports, and reliable online sources such as National Public Radio, Forbes, and the National Barbecue Association. Furthermore, primary data is collected through the use of online surveys and interviews.
Sampling Method
Non-Probability sampling is employed in this study. Non-probability sampling is an appropriate sampling method for this study as it allows for a direct selection of the sample without the use of random selection (Saunders et al., 2020). The sample of this study includes 500 consumers in the United States who regularly purchase and consume barbecue sauce (i.e. lovers of barbecue sauce who live in the United States). The sample includes a diverse representation of individuals of different ages, genders, socio-economic backgrounds, and regions of the United States.
Data Collection Methods
The primary data for this study is collected via online surveys and interviews. Online surveys are administered through an online survey platform and are sent to the sample via email. The survey is composed of questions related to barbecue sauce consumption, including individualsβ preferences for flavours, how often they purchase barbecue sauce, and other factors that influence the purchase and consumption of barbecue sauce. The survey will include both closed-ended and open-ended questions and will be designed to capture the data in a meaningful and efficient manner.
In addition, interviews are conducted with a sub-sample of 20 individuals from the survey sample. The interviews will be semi-structured, meaning that the questions will provide a structure for the interview but also allow for flexibility. The interviews will explore the same topics as the survey but also allow for further exploration in areas such as individual experiences and perceptions surrounding the consumption of barbecue sauce.
Data Analysis Techniques
The data collected through online surveys and interviews are analyzed using a combination of descriptive statistics and thematic analysis.
