Next generation 'Coffee Shop at Home' Experience from Nescafé Dolce Gusto is Here, and it's Called Neo

By Garvit Vyas , 30 November, 2022

Nescafé Dolce Gusto has launched a new brand of coffee machines and pods called Neo. The combination of Neo's high-end materials, state-of-the-art technology, and eco-friendly design creates a coffeehouse experience in the comfort of home. Nestlé's first paper coffee pods, the Neo range, are compostable in the house and require 70% less packaging (by weight) than standard capsules.

New, unique, and patented, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Neo coffee system was created over five years at Nestlé's R&D Center for Systems in Switzerland. It brews high-quality coffee in a biodegradable pod without compromising on flavor. The proprietary SmartBrewTM technology of the company allows customers to make excellent espressos, coffee shop-quality americanos, and drip-style coffees with the touch of a button in the comfort of their homes. Neo instantly detects the pod and adapts the brewing settings to the specific blend or roast preference the customer has selected.

Neo's paper-based pods have been approved for commercial and household composting by TÜV Austria, a worldwide certifying body. These cutting-edge pods are constructed from 1g of paper certified by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) suppliers and lined with a biodegradable biopolymer thinner than a human hair to preserve the purity and freshness of Nescafé Dolce Gusto's Neo coffee. Like all Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffees, Neo was produced in a morally responsible manner.

Global Research and Development Center for Systems and Coffee Machines Head Julia Lauricella said: "Each new system requires careful synchronization of the product, its packaging, and the machine to produce the best possible in-cup result. The company partnered with the Nestlé Institute of Packaging Sciences to choose the beans, design the packaging to keep them fresh and manufacture the processing equipment to ensure the best possible chemistry was present during extraction. More than 200 different material structures were tested before the researchers settled on a paper-based pod for Neo. The unique SmartBrewTM system optimizes the extraction conditions for each beverage, and the user can further personalize their cup via the companion app." Customers can make brewing adjustments remotely thanks to the machine's smartphone compatibility. Nescafé Dolce Gusto's loyalty program provides personalized prizes and suggestions with every cup of coffee.

The coffee machine is made up of 50% recycled plastic, and the thermoblock, which heats the water, is made up of 85% recycled aluminum. It's easier to take apart and fix, has an eco-mode that can be turned off, and has an energy efficiency rating of A++.
