A New Distributed Cloud Service Unveiled at the VMware Explore 2022 Europe

By Aarti Dhapte , 16 November, 2022

A new distributed cloud service, VMware Cloud on Equinix Metal, was unveiled at VMware Explore 2022 Europe in Barcelona on November 8, 2022. It will support enterprise applications by delivering a more performant, secure, cost-effective cloud option.

This service offering combines VMware-managed and supported cloud infrastructure as a service and Equinix’s interconnected, global Bare Metal. This service will extend customers’ cloud environments into distributed metro locations. This will satisfy the demands of businesses while enabling them to preserve the integrity of enterprises. The cloud service combines on-premises security and control with high performance, data locality, and low overall TCO. The relationship between Equinix and VMware will help deliver a distributed cloud service that will address the demands of enterprise applications where latency, performance, security, and data locality are key drivers.

VMware Cloud on Equinix Metal will benefit distributed cloud users. Smart cities, video analytics, game development, and real-time financial market trading, among others, will benefit from this service. VMware Cloud will provide consistent multi-cloud infrastructure and operations. VMware Cloud on Equinix Metal uses the Equinix Fabric interconnection to provide private, low-latency access to private and public cloud environments. This interconnection will also help thousands of IT, and network providers. VMware Cloud software as a service from VMware and the Bare Metal as a Service capacity from Equinix will be available for customers.

Digital transformation is trending, and hence companies are adopting hybrid multi-cloud architectures. The partnership will help provide an on-demand, dedicated cloud infrastructure solution that can be deployed globally. Another benefit of this partnership is high performance and consistent infrastructure with low TCO. The companies jointly innovate a distributed cloud service that helps enterprises in cloud transformation.

Equinix and VMware have delivered solutions to businesses for fast, more secure, and consistent multi-cloud infrastructure. They have thousands of mutual customers throughout the world. VMware workloads in Equinix data centers have helped customers accelerate their cloud transformation. Equinix has a network of more than 240 data centers in 71 major metro areas worldwide. It serves as a transit hub, enabling secure network connections across private and public clouds. VMware Cloud is the first multi-cloud Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) with a presence in more than 100 regions.
