In 2023, France states that it is still willing to collaborate with Germany on a future maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) as it conducts preliminary scoping studies for a domestic alternative. The two inked a contract in 2017 to work together to build an MPA under the Maritime Airborne Warfare System (MAWS) programme for service entrance in the 2030s, which will replace the Lockheed P-3C Orion and Breguet ATL-2 aircraft deployed by the German and French fleets, respectively.

With the announcement that it will be holding separate tenders for each type of aircraft, Malaysia is moving forward with its plans to buy much-needed manned and unmanned aircraft to improve maritime security in 2020. The country is located in Southeast Asia.
