The display driver business is always changing because new technologies are coming out and people want better material watching on a wide range of electronic devices. The market for display drivers is affected by many things, such as changes in what customers want, new technologies, and partnerships between different businesses.
The fast changes in monitor technology are having a big effect on the business world. Because people want them, companies are putting a lot of money into research and development to make cutting-edge screens with better color accuracy, faster update rates, and higher resolution. Because of this, there is a high demand for complex display drivers that can handle these things. More modern technologies like OLED and microLED are replacing older LCD screens that don't work as well. This is just one of many big changes in the business.
The great majority of display drivers that consumer goods companies sell are used in phones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs. As more and more people around the world use these devices, display drivers need to be quick and effective. In order to keep up with the needs of modern gadgets, like smaller borders and more streamlined designs, display driver makers are under a lot of pressure to make small, energy-efficient devices.
Another thing that is changing the business is how much people depend on computers and sound systems in their cars. More and more people want smart display driver options that can be changed as car communication and self-driving features get better. Because of this trend, OEMs and display driver companies are working together to make new goods for the car market.
Changes in foreign politics and the world economy can have a big effect on the display driver business as a whole. Supply chain problems, trade disputes, and changes in the value of the dollar are all things that can affect production costs and end prices. When the global economy changes, the markets respond. Businesses need to be able to adapt to the new difficulties these changes bring.
The business of making display drivers is very competitive. Creating new features and processes that work better is a key part of their plan to get a bigger share of the market. A lot of big businesses grow their product lines and stay ahead of the competition by merging or buying other businesses. Small businesses can be found at all stages of growth. Display Driver Market Trends

  • Growing the use of smartphones is driving the market growth

Market CAGR for display drivers is driven by the Increasing customer spending on media and entertainment is the main force behind the growth of smartphone use worldwide. Smartphones are high-quality and fast, and they work like computers by giving you information in real-time. They became a big part of how people lived. Because technology changes quickly, it has a short life span. This forces major players to spend money on research to develop and separate their products with more advanced features. Demand for display drivers is expected to rise due to the issues mentioned above in the future.

Additionally, the demand for display driver integrated circuits (DDIC) is increasing because of the widespread use of LCD panels in many electronic devices. LCD screens are used in many devices, including TVs, laptops, smartphones, and more. The market is also affected by big electronic paper displays being used in more places because they are easier to use, cheaper to make, easier to read and use less energy. The display driver integrated circuit (DDIC) market is also helped by fast development, changes in lifestyle, a rise in investments, and more consumer spending. Therefore, the increasing prevalence of Display Driver is fueling the expansion of the international market.

For instance, magnachip semiconductor corporation reported unveiling two seventh-generation MXT Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFETs) 1 for smartphone battery protection circuits based on its Super-Short Channel technology. As a result, the demand for display drivers is predicted to grow throughout the forecasted time due to the rising demand for smartphones. Thus, the driving factor is the display driver market revenue.

Display Driver Industry Developments

January 2024: Today marks the debut of a new feature that Nvidia is making available to all users of RTX GPUs: RTX Video HDR. RTX Video HDR makes use of artificial intelligence to transform SDR color space video to HDR. This is similar to how Nvidia's RTX Video Super Resolution can improve the quality of outdated, grainy online videos. All that is required is a display that is compatible with HDR10 and has HDR enabled in Windows.

The RTX Video HDR driver was included in the 551.23 Game Ready driver version that was released today for the introduction of the new RTX 4070 Ti Super. It has added a minor color detail to 4K YouTube videos that weren't published in HDR. This feature is compatible with both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. It is possible that the effect might be more noticeable on a more advanced HDR display; nonetheless, it was impossible to detect anything about it until I repeatedly toggled it on and off. Previously, when RTX Video Super Resolution was used to upscale and sharpen ancient YouTube videos, it produced results that were comparable to what is found here.

In the same way that many of Nvidia's AI-powered features need an RTX card, RTX Video HDR does as well. This is because it makes use of the tensor cores that Nvidia first began delivering in its RTX 20-series graphics processing units (GPUs). In addition, Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology makes use of artificial intelligence algorithms in order to enhance the frame rates and visual quality of video games. Additionally, in 2022, Nvidia introduced its Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution (DLDSR) technology, which was designed to enhance picture quality by rendering games at a greater resolution. Nvidia Broadcast also contains a function called Eye Contact, which use artificial intelligence to create the illusion that you are establishing eye contact when you are on a video conversation.

April 2023: The ROHM-developed BD83A04EFV-M, BD83A14EFV-M, and BD82A26MUF-M 4ch/6ch LED driver ICs are designed for medium to large-scale automobile displays in instrument and infotainment clusters.

December 2022: Himax Technologies has announced a collaboration with Novatek Microelectronics Corp. (TWSE: 3034) ("Novatek"), a leading fabless chip design firm that specializes in the design, development, and marketing of a wide range of display driver ICs & SoC solutions, to introduce the market-leading ultralow power pre-roll AI solution for a battery-operated security camera at CES 2023.
