On July 21, 2023 Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX, announced the expansion of its additive manufacturing center in West Des Moines, investing $14 million. The newly expanded facility, spanning 9,000 sq.ft., will house cutting-edge 3D metal printers, significantly bolstering the company's additive manufacturing capabilities. The company will explore innovative production possibilities for commercial and military aircraft engine components. The addition of state-of-the-art 3D metal printers opens doors to greater advancements in manufacturing land-based turbine components.


On Oct. 13, 2023 TRUMPF, a leading global provider of 3D printing systems for the aviation industry, announced that Airbus Helicopters is using its metal 3D printing to manufacture components for its helicopters and aircraft. TRUMPF's 3D printing systems are a key technology enabling sustainable flying and reduced dependency on long supply chains. The new 3D printing technology will enable Airbus Helicopters to expand its additive manufacturing capabilities in Donauwörth, Germany.


On Aug. 16, 2023 Element UK announced receiving approval from GKN Aerospace Sweden AB to test metal additive manufacturing powders at its Antwerp facility. The approval follows Element's investment in a comprehensive suite of metallic testing services for additive manufacturing in accordance with ISO/ASTM 52907 standards. These services encompass chemical composition, particle size distribution, morphology, contamination, flow ability, and characteristic densities. These laboratories will offer aerospace industries an extensive array of techniques and services for powder characterization.


On July 04, 2023 Oerlikon announced that it is advancing metal AM part production for aero and space applications. The company is investing in developing a strong metal AM service catering to the extreme requirements even for the most safety-critical parts of companies such as Airbus and ArianeGroup. The company revealed it worked with Airbus to industrialize the AM process for serial production of antenna clusters.
