Brown Fused Alumina Market is predicted to reach USD 1165.03 Million at a CAGR of 7.23% during the forecast period

Pune, India, Oct 2022, MRFR Press Release/Market Research Future has published a Cooked Research Report on the Global Brown Fused Alumina Market.

Market Synopsis

The global brown fused alumina market share is likely to attain a global CAGR of 7.23% during the ongoing forecast period of 2019-2030. The global brown fused alumina market was valued at USD 622.86 million in 2021 and is projected to reach USD 1165.03 million by the end of 2030.

Brown fused alumina is produced by a reduction fusion of bauxite ore in an electric arc furnace at about 2,250℃. It has a high bulk density and high hardness, making it the perfect raw material for the abrasives production process.

The expansion of steel production capacities worldwide is also expected to generate significant demand for high alumina refractory products, thereby increasing the demand for brown fused alumina over the forecast period. However, stringent regulations on mining activities are expected to limit raw material availability and affect market growth in the upcoming period.

Competitive Landscape

Asia-Pacific led the global brown fused alumina market with a revenue share of 49.21% in 2020 and is expected to register the highest CAGR of 8.09% during the forecast period and is is moderately fragmented in the region. The industry is likely to become more competitive as partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions increase. Furthermore, a growing number of players will enter the market within the estimated assessment period, boosting competition in the market.

The major players in the market include Imerys, Bosai Minerals Group Co., Ltd, LKAB Minerals, Kuhmichel Abrasiv GmbH, Saint-Gobain, Washington Mills, Shandong East Grinding Materials Co., Ltd, Elfusa Geral de Eletrofusão Ltda, and Yichuan Shengyu Abrasives Co., Limited.

Segmentation

By Type

  • LOW PURITY (<95%): The low purity brown fused alumina has 94.2% Al2O3, 2.79% TiO2, 0.33% Fe2O3, and 1.34% SiO2. Brown fused alumina is used as a recyclable abrasive. Alumina is often used in blasting operations where iron contamination on the non-ferrous metal substrate is not allowed due to its low iron content. Aluminum oxide is naturally very hard and sharp abrasive that cleans rapidly, leaving an anchor profile prior to a coating, which is suitable for removing scale, rust, and old coatings.

  • HIGH PURITY (>95%): . The high purity brown fused alumina is generally found in the form of macrogrits. It is used as a raw material in refractories, grinding wheels, ceramics shapes, blasting media, sandpaper, laminates, metal preparation, and coatings. The high purity brown fused alumina has 95.65% Al2O3, 2.42% TiO2, 0.12% Fe2O3, and 0.92% SiO2.

By Application

  • BONDED & COATED ABRASIVES: The coated and bonded abrasives made by high heat treated brown fused alumina have the characteristic of durable, sharpness and high grinding performance.

  • BLASTING: Brown fused alumina (BFA) is a general-purpose, loose grain abrasive used in abrasive blasting. When blast equipment is paired with a media recovery system, the BFA offers multiple turns or recyclability before it breaks down. Typically propelled by air, BFA acts as a powerful, multi-edged abrasive which penetrates the workpiece while creating an exceptionally clean and uniquely etched surface. This unique surface finish is excellent preparation for application in paint or powder coating.

  • REFRACTORY: Brown fused alumina has a high bulk density and high hardness, which makes it a perfect medium for removing rust, mill scale, and surface contamination. The consistent particle size allows for a uniform surface finish and coverage. The angular shape gives it an aggressiveness that provides a clean and fast-cutting action, considerably increasing production rates. Thermal shock resistance makes brown fused alumina an important raw material for refractory industries

  • GRINDING/BALL MINING: Brown fused alumina is a tough, sharp abrasive, highly suitable for grinding metals of high tensile strength. Ball mill or rod mill grinding system is widely used in various types of ores' beneficiation, electricity, cement, and chemical industries.

  • OTHERS: The others segment includes surface hardening and brake linings.

By Region

  • North America: In North America, The US is the leading country in the region owing to the established presence of metal manufacturers in the region The US accounted for a significant share of the brown fused alumina market in North America and is expected to register a CAGR of 5.6% during the review period

  • Europe: The market in Europe is primarily driven by the demand for brown fused alumina in abrasives and refractory applications. In 2020, Germany accounted for the largest share in Europe and was followed by France.

  • Asia Pacific: Asia-Pacific dominated the global market with a value share of 49.21% in 2020 . The market growth can be attributed to the growing urbanization and increasing demand in the refractory industry, especially in the metal manufacturing sector in the emerging economies of Asia-Pacific, particularly in China.

  • Latin America: The Latin American market is divided into Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina are the major contributors in the region.

  • Middle East & Africa: IN Middle East & Africa GCC countriesare the leading  in the region followed by Turkey and Egypt.
