Free Cloud Setups are a Victim of Botnets Increasingly

By Shubhendra Anand , 22 August, 2024

A growing dependency on Internet marketing has led to several disruptions in the web sector. The number of botnets will increase in the internet sector in 2024. Numerous botnet activities in 2024 are an indication of Internet security. The active botnet cases show that multiple IP addresses are compromised and fall victim to it. The botnet is a simple description that suggests an attacker can control a network of computers, which can lead to unethical and dangerous activities. The compromised network of computers gets affected by the attacker that controls the system remotely by injecting various malware. Several modes of communication, like computers, smartphones, and others, have become the medium of botnets.

In 2024, several botnet-related issues show the growing incidences of unethical web attacks. There will be an increase in botnet attacks in 2024 for many reasons. The leading cause affecting the networks with botnets is the use of cheaper cloud, host servers, and the like. Botnet attackers are launching from the free and trial accounts on different internet platforms. Surveys show that emails are another botnet attacker to exploit the systems. However, experts believe that different organizations' use of free clouds can mostly fall victim to botnets. Other than big organizations, it is difficult for all the companies in the tech sector to maintain a solely dedicated cloud platform. According to their official needs, the companies use a combination of free and paid clouds.

Moreover, free cloud platforms are safe as they are cost-effective and eco-friendly. Free cloud platforms provide immense security, encryption, backups, and other features. However, botnets can move into the vulnerabilities of these cloud platforms in several ways. Botnets can access those points even if the cloud platforms provide several security options. Additionally, phishing through branding, fraudulent emails, and other methods is another trick to getting user credentials. Hence, it is necessary to be vigilant while using fee cloud platforms.

According to survey data in 2024, botnets successfully drive internet traffic by 30-40 percent in 2024. It indicates that botnets generate around 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) of traffic in a day. However, these estimates can vary, so it is extremely necessary to be careful and vigilant about the security of data saved in the cloud. Botnets can impact Internet services and networks on personal and professional platforms; hence, they threaten Internet security.
