Central Asia’s Dependency On Coal Is Growing Rapidly

By Shubhendra Anand , 30 April, 2024

The clean energy transition will gain momentum in different nations in 2024. The economies around the world are planning to transform their energy sector to adopt renewables. This is due to the goal of achieving clean energy by the end of 2050.

According to surveys, sustainable development should be established in different developed and developing economies for a better future. However, transforming the energy sectors is expensive for developing nations as it is challenging to eliminate fossil fuels. China is the leading country contributing towards the clean energy transition in 2024. China will support green energy transformation by producing more renewable sources for power generation, such as wind and solar, in 2024. However, China is reported to be the foremost country in coal production. At the same time, other Asian countries in the central part of the region fail to have such a strong hold over renewable energy. The recent survey reports reveal that Central Asian countries will depend more on coal power generation in 2024. The region has been surviving on coal-based power generation for a decade. Central Asia is expected to expand coal power generation in the coming years; however, clean energy generation aims to eliminate fossil fuels.
