Fall in Number of Uninsured Americans in 2023
By Rahul Gotadki , 14 February, 2023
In the United States, the open enrolment on the public health insurance marketplace ended on Sunday, January 7. Almost 16 million people had signed up to receive coverage in 2023. This number is a new record for the enrolment period that happens once a year, constituting a 13 percent increase over the 2021/22 sign-up.
The Affordable Care Act, also called Obamacare, has an enrolment for coverage in the third year. It reflects a rising number of Americans having health insurance. Many Americans receive health care coverage for their families and themselves through their employers. But those working in lower-paid professions or freelancing often don't take up range.
Biden administration has expanded to Medicaid and Affordable Care Act as part of the American rescue plan. According to reports, the introduction of subsidies for applicants earning more than 400 percent or above the federal poverty level made ACA coverage more attractive for many workers since the enrolment period of 2021/2022.
According to the reports, in 2021, 8.2 million people chose a plan for the upcoming years from the ACA exchange in 2020. This is the first increase under Trump but only half of the tally of 2023. However, the sign-up period was the first following the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and other economic contractions while coinciding with a republican-backed Supreme Court challenge to the program. Even after all these circumstances, health insurance enrolment has risen to cover 90.3 percent of Americans in 2020, then rising in private, not public, insurance.Up to One-quarter of People with Chronic Health Problems Said they had not Filled a Prescription in the Past for their Health Condition because of the cost
