ID: MRFR//6475-CR | 135 Pages | Author: Swapnil Palwe| May 2023

The global vehicle tracking system market can be categorized according to type, technology propulsion type of automobile being tracked, application fields, region geographical boundaries where operations occur involving these devices, etc. The Global Market by Type comprises passive or active systems across different countries. For example, GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) Europe, GPS (Global Positioning Systems), Connectivity Technology, and others. The Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) market is characterized by several factors that shape it. This trend is driven by the need to enhance fleet management and vehicle security. For instance, most companies involved in transportation and logistics have adopted VTS as a way of monitoring and managing their fleets in real-time.
The adoption of Vehicle Tracking Systems is driven largely by regulatory requirements and compliance standards. Government regulations in various countries require tracking systems, especially for commercial vehicles, which promote safety transparency and adherence to transport laws, among others. Developments in technology, especially those related to GPS (Global Positioning System) as well as communication technology, have significantly influenced the VTS market. Thus, integrating advanced sensors with telematics and communication modules enables more accurate tracking information for users at any given point in time with respect to their specific vehicle location on the earth's surface area. The growth of e-commerce has led to an increase in last-mile delivery services, hence expanding the VTS market. More people now shop online, leading to greater demand for efficient, timely deliveries of goods ordered from stores operating over internet sites selling products such as clothes, electronics, etc. In addition, they help optimize delivery routes so that we can reach our customers faster when it comes down to it; they provide real-time visibility into where all these trucks are located right now, whether they're stuck somewhere between warehouses or moving along highways somewhere else within city borders; make sure that trucks arrive on time every day without delay or mistake- because even one late shipment might result not just with unsatisfied customer but also financial penalties imposed by suppliers who were unable deliver their goods on the required date due bad luck i.e., unexpected weather conditions.
The automotive sector is driven by security concerns and the need to combat vehicle theft, which consequently leads to the adoption of VTS. Market growth in VTS has been augmented by consumer awareness and preferences for connected car technologies. Customers are now actively looking for automobiles that contain sophisticated tracking and telematics systems as they focus on safety, convenience, and connectivity more than ever before. It is only about time before VTS' data analytics capabilities become indispensable in optimizing fleet operations. Enterprises can gain knowledge of driver behavior, fuel consumption patterns, and maintenance needs by analyzing information collected from vehicles. The market is evolving due to increased competition and the entrance of new players in the VTS sector. In conclusion, the Vehicle Tracking System market is changing in response to expanding business requirements for efficient fleet management, compliance with regulations, and enhanced security, as well as broader trends such as connectedness and data analytics.

Vehicle Tracking System Market Trends

  • Increasing demand for commercial vehicles is driving the market growth

Market CAGR is driven by the growing number of commercial vehicles, including buses, trucks, and vans, driving the market for vehicle tracking systems. Vehicles that are engaged in transporting men, material, or machinery- where on-time delivery can make a significant difference in cost and productivity- are prompting players to adopt GPS-tracking devices. School buses, city buses, state transport buses, cash vans, police petrol vans, cargo vans, courier pickup, radio taxis, delivery vans, and others are prospects for vehicle tracking systems. The growing demand for commercial vehicles is likely to expand the sales of GPS tracking devices owing to the utilization of GPS tracking devices for several benefits, including theft protection, usage-based insurance (UBI), and prevention of unauthorized usage. As commercial vehicle sales expand, the demand for vehicle tracking system also increases. These devices are used to track and manage vehicles in real time. The owners or enterprises efficiently utilize their resources, which assists them in ensuring vehicle safety.

Additionally, an increase in data privacy violations is the major reason discouraging end-user from utilizing vehicle tracking systems, as the data includes personal information, including driver and vehicle details and routes traveled are restraining the market growth. Furthermore, the growth in data privacy violations is controlling end-users from utilizing vehicle tracking systems, as the data includes personal information such as driver and vehicle details and the route pursued. Due to a shortage of cellular or wireless network connectivity, GPS and cellular-based trackers fail, and the R&D price connected with the system acts as a barrier for new market competitors.

Various companies and government authorities worldwide have developed a mobility-as-a-service model to decrease traffic and carbon emissions. They are launching ride-hailing, carpooling, car sharing, and more options for commuters instead of utilizing their private vehicle. Vehicle tracking system delivery companies are likely to profit from this service. The hardware device and software are expected to assist in gaining insights regarding pick-ups, drop-offs, vehicle telematics, and payment activities.

For instance, in August 2020, Zoomcar launched 'Zoomcar Mobility Stack' (ZMS), a software stack for corporates and fleet owners to maintain track of vehicle position and drivers' behavior in real-time to stop rash driving and control vehicular damage. Moreover, the mobility services providers such as Lyft, Uber, Ola, DiDi, and others have announced their plans to introduce autonomous vehicles and robot taxis in their fleets. Therefore, the surge in the adoption of Mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) offers different opportunities for market expansion. Thus, driving the vehicle tracking system market revenue.

Vehicle Tracking System Industry Developments

January 2024: It is reported that the National Highways Authority of India is getting ready to install cutting-edge vehicle tracking technology by the first half of 2024. The National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTI) is prepared to implement GPS-based toll collection and is getting ready to roll out the system. Anurag Jain, the secretary of the Roads Ministry, is believed to have said that pilot testing of the technology would begin on some routes, as stated by several media.

According to statements made by Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport, in December, the administration had said that it intended to implement the new GPS satellite-based toll collecting system over the whole country by March of the following year. Furthermore, Gadkari had brought attention to the fact that two pilot projects utilizing an automated number plate recognition system (ANPR cameras) had been carried out simultaneously. The purpose of these initiatives is to make it possible to collect tolls automatically without requiring cars to come to a full stop. The overall objective of this program is to reduce the amount of congestion that occurs on roads and to develop a system in which drivers are taxed according to the extent of the distance that they travel on highways.

At the core of the system is either a Global Positioning System (GPS) gadget installed in your car or an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera, as the name of the system implies. As you go down the road, the gadget will keep track of your movements and identify the locations at which you enter and depart tolled portions. The toll plazas that you have traversed are identified by the system based on the distance that you have traveled, and the costs are computed using this information. Because of this, the "one-size-fits-all" method of set tolls at booths is eliminated, which makes the situation more equitable for cars who travel shorter distances.

April 2022: Bosch and AWS collaborated to digitalize logistics. Bosch and Amazon Web Services (AWS), an American cloud provider, plan to improve efficiency and sustainability in the transportation and logistics sector.

December 2021: ORBCOMM Inc. announced the launch of an asset management solution for transportation, container, and heavy equipment. This new asset management solution was enabled by GT 1030 global LTE telematics device for tracking and monitoring assets.
