The larvicides market plays a crucial role in global efforts to control and mitigate the spread of vector-borne diseases, particularly those transmitted by mosquitoes, flies, and other insects during their larval stage. Larvicides are chemical or biological agents specifically designed to target and eliminate insect larvae in their breeding habitats, interrupting their life cycle and preventing the emergence of disease-carrying adult insects.

One of the primary drivers of the larvicides market is the increasing incidence of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, and West Nile virus. These diseases pose significant public health threats in various regions around the world, particularly in tropical and subtropical areas where vectors thrive. Larvicides provide a proactive approach to disease control by targeting mosquitoes and other vectors in their early developmental stages, reducing the overall insect population and, consequently, the risk of disease transmission.

A new pesticide named Mission was introduced in 2023 by the agrochemical company Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL). It is efficient in controlling a variety of lepidopteran pests in crops, including vegetables, rice, sugarcane, and soybeans. The new product has a distinct mechanism of action that reduces pest resistance to existing pesticides. It is offered in both granule and liquid forms.

In 2023, Valent Bio Sciences, a US-based company, introduced three Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis (BTI) products onto the Bangladeshi market. These products are intended to kill the larvae of the Aedis mosquito, which is the vector of the dengue virus. During the inaugural ceremony held in a city hotel, Jason Clark, the worldwide business director of Valent Bio Sciences, announced that the three drugs were registered with the Bangladeshi government two weeks prior, after confirmation by the relevant authorities of their efficacy through testing.

A private Bangladeshi firm called Safeway Pest Control Limited developed three BTI (Bacillus Thuringiensis Israelensis) pesticides in 2023, saying it was the most environmentally benign and effective technique to control dengue outbreaks by larvicides of mosquito populations.
