January 2022: Cochlear Nucleus Implants have been granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval by Cochlear Limited, the worldwide leader in implantable hearing solutions. These implants are designed to treat single-sided deafness (SSD) and unilateral hearing loss (UHL). With this approval, Cochlear can for the first time offer cochlear implants as an implantable treatment option for patients with UHL/SSD. SSD is unique to those who have profound to severe hearing loss in one ear and normal or near-normal hearing in the other. UHL is characterized by hearing loss in one ear and near-normal to normal hearing in the other. With this approval, Cochlear is pleased to offer individuals with unilateral hearing loss or single-sided deafness the greatest number of hearing implant options possible via our bone conduction and cochlear implant solutions. -
August 2023: Provider of hearing aids The Cochlear Osia System, an advanced active bone conduction device from Cochlear, has been introduced. Equipped with a 3.0 teslas (T) capability, it facilitates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). For individuals with conductive and mixed hearing loss as well as single-sided sensorineural impairment, the Osia OSI300 implant-based system that has been developed has the capacity to improve hearing outcomes. Osia is the first and only active bone conduction system to enable patients to undergo 1.5T and 3.0T MRI scans non-surgically, with the introduction of the implant. The OSI300 implant has been purposefully engineered to retain its functionality even after undergoing MRI scans, in contrast to electromagnetic transducers that are susceptible to demagnetization.
