July 2018- Scientists at IIT Madras, from Department of Chemistry have introduced a super absorbent polymer that is biodegradable in nature using chitosan (a form of sugar that is extracted from the seafood waste), urea and citric acid. This eco-friendly diaper has the capacity of absorbing about 1250 gm water for every gram of polymer.
