Cloud Computing Evolves in the US and UK

By Shubhendra Anand , 09 April, 2025

Cloud computing is an inevitable part of the tech world nowadays. Businesses are adopting cloud services to fuel operations rapidly in 2024. A study conducted in 2024 shows that 90 percent of enterprises rely on the cloud for organized work. The cloud adoption report provides better insights into the adoption of cloud services globally. Several startup companies are diving into cloud computing promptly, brightening the future of cloud computing platforms.

Compiling different works, such as cloud services, applications, and other operations, under one platform streamlines the company's work in a broader spectrum. Using AI-powered technologies in IT and business platforms accelerates the need for cloud computing services. Hence, cloud  business aims to expand in all formats of work environments, like hybrid, multi-cloud, on-premises, and distributed. A recent survey of 2024 highlights that two-thirds of cloud services consumers operate in public and private cloud scenarios. However, 55 percent of consumers still operate from on-premises. Research on cloud-based workloads suggests that 31 percent of organizations anticipated running 75 percent of their workloads in the cloud. It added that 39 percent of businesses operate 50 percent of their workloads on the cloud.

A study on cloud computing global statistics shows the dominance of the
United States and Western Europe in 2024. These two regions together account for 82 percent of the World’s cloud computing in 2024. Based on the data traced in 2022 on global cloud services, the US and Europe top the chart in adopting cloud computing services in 2024. With contracts totaling up to £366 million ($461 million) to update its finance, HR, and ERP systems, the UK government is investing heavily in modernizing its operations. The ambitious effort hopes to replace antiquated legacy software and provide centralized control by moving these systems to the cloud. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), the Department for Transport (DfT), and HMRC are brought together under the new Unity initiative. The program aims to move the three departments from the outdated SAP ERP system (ECC 6.0) to SAP's most recent cloud platform by centralizing finance, procurement, HR, and payroll into a shared services architecture.
