Clean Energy Transition in the UK Needs More Energy to Meet Net Zero Emissions Targets

By Shubhendra Anand , 30 May, 2024

The clean energy transition is growing at a progressive rate in different nations worldwide. Since the economies target to achieve net zero emissions by the end of 205-, different initiatives are taken by the countries in 2024. The increasing demand for electric vehicles in light of the clean energy transition is a sign of a greener transformation. The countries around the world are setting new norms to be maintained by the citizens for faster results. The United Kingdom's green transformation energy transition demands 15.5 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy in a day to achieve net zero emissions, as reported by research in 2024.

Based on a survey in 2024, the United Kingdom will require more clean energy to support the decarbonized power grid by the end of 2035. Therefore, the nation requires increasing installation of renewable energy to support the clean energy transition. The United Kingdom is currently speeding up the installation of renewable sources of energy in the energy sector. The technologies involved in the United Kingdom’s clean energy transformation need varied options to grow the deployment of resources in 2024. Another survey suggests that one percent of gross domestic product in the United Kingdom will be required to meet the basics of clean energy transition by 2050. The whole investment cost for the net zero transition in the United Kingdom is 16 billion and 600 billion pounds in the public and private sectors, respectively. It is reported that his total cost of investment for the clean energy transition is to be covered by the United Kingdom within the next 25 years.

Experts suggest investment in the clean energy transition comes later; however, the sectors to be transformed are much more important. Installment of greener sources in different energy sectors is a big challenge again. However, the United Kingdom holds the capacity to hike renewable energy production 13 times more than the current state. Therefore, the United Kingdom’s need to accelerate clean energy installation for net zero targets is expected to be fulfilled on time.
