Nov.22, 2023, The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) unveiled a communication protocol, Aliro protocol, to support interoperability and promote digital access adoption for mobile device and access control reader companies.


With a common credential, the new standardized communication protocol promotes interoperability between mobile devices, wearables, and access control readers that use technologies including NFC, BLE, and ultra-wideband (UWB). With the Aliro protocol launch, the CSA aims to foster widespread adoption of consumer electronic devices by enabling a consistent experience across certified hardware and the adoption of digital access solutions.


Sep. 21, 2023, South Korean researchers at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Dongeui University, and Daejon University announced adding a new trick to near-field communication (NFC) technology, internet connectivity, as the proposed standard RFC 9428. The new proposed standard, RFC 9428, brings full internet connectivity (IPv6 connectivity) to NFC devices at a four-inch range to otherwise disconnected NFC-equipped devices.


Sep. 02, 2023, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) introduced credit, field communication (NFC-based payments to scale UPI service. The new offerings include a credit line on UPI, UPI Lite X for offline payments, and an NFC-enabled Tap & Pay feature, conversational payments through Hello! UPI and conversational bill payments with BillPay Connect.


Aug. 10, 2023, the Reserve Bank of India announced Conversational Payments on UPI to ease customer experience in the payment system. It also announced NFC in offline payments via UPI Lite, besides enhancing transaction limits for small-value digital payments to Rs 500 from Rs 200 in UPI Lite. New UPI features will enable users to converse with an AI-powered system to do transactions. Conversational Payments on UPI will be available in smartphones and feature phones-based UPI channels.
