  October 2023- Kingstree Town Manager Richard Treme updated the Town Council on the list of ongoing projects taking place in Kingstree. Water projects, repairs to downtown streets and sidewalks, beautification efforts, Black River projects, and a new travel ball field were on the agenda. Treme said that every one of these projects is vital. It's a basis for Kingstree to grow and attract individuals and businesses. He further added that they have a wonderful mayor and council here. They can see the vision. Kingstree Town Project Updates for October 2023. New fire and police department radios have been purchased. The radios were funded by the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Grants and are updated every few years to keep up with changing technology. Black River Landing Project Phase 1 is complete. This is one of several projects along the 70-mile stretch of the Black River from Williamsburg to Georgetown counties, newly designated as a State Park. This portion of the project includes a bathroom facility and 40 new parking spaces at Mills River Landing. USD 4.6 million has been earmarked for the project, USD 3 million of which will be used for the Black River projects in Kingstree. USD200,000 in funding for this project has also come from the South Carolina Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Undiscovered South Carolina grant. Phase 2 of the Black River Landing Project is still in the planning process and includes a boardwalk, amphitheater, pavilion, and playground. This completed project will be a tourist destination for Kingstree and is anticipated to be an economic stimulator for the town. Improvements to Wastewater Pumping Stations are underway. The pumps are over 20 years old and are cheaper to replace than repair. Pump 1, located at Black River Landing, is finished. Pump two, located behind the Family Dollar on Main Street, is currently being replaced. One million dollars in state funding for this project came from the Rural Infrastructure Authority.
