  October 2023: According to Samsung Electronics, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has approved a function for the Galaxy Watch series that facilitates the early diagnosis of sleep apnea. Software as a medical device (SaMD) has been approved for the wearable due to its capacity to assist in the early detection of sleep apnea. The term "software-defined medical devices" (SaMD) describes medical devices that are created as software integrated in devices to function as independent devices installed and utilized on general-purpose equipment or devices like mobile smartphones. In order to warn users of symptoms, the function measures blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) during sleep using the bioactive sensor on the Galaxy Watch.
