Impact of COVID-19 on the Global Clear Ice Market
The advent of the global pandemic, COVID-19, has resulted in a global crisis across the world. The outbreak has created a major disruption in the growth of several industries across the globe. Consumers are majorly focusing on the essential food, beverages, and personal care products, including packaged & processed food items, hand sanitizers, hand wash, hand soap, household cleaning products, and other major personal care products. Clear ice makers are home appliances or industrial machines that are used to prepare clear ice in the form of cubes, nuggets, or flakes, among others. Clear ice makers freeze water from one direction, resulting in the formation of clear ice without any air bubbles or impurities. The use of clear ice makers is exceptionally high in the foodservice industry. Restaurants, cafés, bars, and hotels account for a significant share of the sales of clear ice makers. Foodservice providers prefer clear ice makers for various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Clear ice is preferred for its aesthetic appearance. Moreover, the clear, bubble-less, and impurity-free ice melts slowly as compared to conventional ice and, thus, the dilution of beverages is limited.
However, the foodservice industry has seen negative growth over the last couple of months across the globe. Most of the governments have decided to lockdown in their countries to slow down the spread of COVID-19. The closures of restaurants have led to significantly reduced sales of clear ice makers across the globe. As per the National Restaurant Association of India, in-restaurant dining is witnessing a major impact over the last couple of months, and the overall revenue dropped by approximately 30–35%. Additionally, the restaurants located within mall premises recorded sharp deep. However, there is a negligible impact on food delivery across the globe. Due to the lockdown, most consumers are opting for online food delivery, which is expected to fuel the growth of the global clear ice makers market. Multinational fast food restaurant chains such as KFC and McDonald's have had a tremendous impact on the growth of the global fast-food industry. To cater to the changing preferences of consumers, fast food restaurant chains are emphasizing on online food delivery instead of dine-in. Clear ice makers are not only gaining traction in the foodservice industry but also in households. However, the availability of clear ice makers is low in most of the COVID-19 infected countries owing to several factors. The organized retail sectors provide only essential food, beverages, and personal care products, which is anticipated to act as one of the noteworthy factors for the negligible sales of clear ice makers across the COVID-19 infected countries.
